The Primary Schools Music Festival (PSMF) is a State Heritage Icon under the direction of The SA Public Primary Schools Music Society and the Department for Education. As custodians of this unique South Australian tradition, our mission is to engage students in artistic excellence, cultural diversity and social inclusion through performance in Music and the Arts.

This Festival remains at the forefront of Arts education in South Australia. Neuroscience is proving that children who are actively engaged in music develop improved memory and enhanced maths and language skills.

By the end of the concert series, over 300 schools will be represented.

Music empowers our young stars to shine brightly in all areas of their lives! Marvel at the spectacle of these young South Australians performing, as they become members of the Festival of Music family, an enduring legacy of excellence in music.

‘Stars in the Arena’ runs from Monday 15 September to Thursday 18 September 2025.

The Primary Schools ‘Festival of Music’ is a State Heritage icon. Every year thousands of young voices take part in this choral program. In 2025, this 134-year-old tradition continues and remains at the forefront of Arts education in Public Schools. We need your support to ensure this intergenerational tradition continues for South Australian students, so that they too can experience what has touched so many lives before.
